WINGSForum aims to provide a platform to imagine, explore and experiment with different paths as individuals, organizations, and as a field. It brought together more than 350 attendees from over 50 countries from October 3-5, 2023, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. Philanthropy leaders, professionals, networks, experts and changemakers from around the world representing all forms and types of philanthropy were here.
The Youth Cafe in partnership with AIESEC is organizing a youth month; the largest youth-centered event in Kenya. Youth Month is an annual event organized by AIESEC in Kenya founded in 2022, where the Country Managers, members, and youths in general from all over the country meet to build new projects, network, learn new skills, ensuring we solve the problems youths in the country face.
The Youth Café was invited for a 3-day Collaborative Futures Workshop, which is a hybrid hackathon and fellowship designed to help you, and fellow social justice organizations and leaders envision ways that emerging creative technology can expand your impact, understand how new technologies will shape your work and how we can change these technologies, and learn how to act on this knowledge in partnership with East Africa's boldest creatives and technologists using a Do It Yourself (DIY) ethos and active collaboration.
The open call has global prizes. Selected finalists will receive seed funding (quantum subject to the needs of each project) to pilot their innovations in their communities, as well as research mentorship to help monitor and evaluate their projects, write research manuscripts, and disseminate their findings to a wider audience. Finalists will also be given the opportunity to have their projects recognized at international conferences and ceremonies.
The Youth Café is determined to look at TVET institutions as what they are: excellent institutions for skills building in line of different careers. However, for this to happen collectively, the Ministry of Education requires to adopt a vigorous communication scheme that highlights the benefits of these institutions, their competitive edge and the success stories necessary to influence the thinking of students as well as parents. The goals to achieve social equity and present all students with good options for training could be elevated by the resourcefulness and strength of all tertiary institutions. Strengthening TVET institutions is a matter of national growth and a closer inch towards sustainable education.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution can be described as the advent of “cyber-physical systems” involving entirely new capabilities for people and machines. The Fourth Industrial Revolution represents entirely new ways in which technology becomes embedded within societies and even our human bodies. Examples include genome editing, new forms of machine intelligence, breakthrough materials, and approaches to governance that rely on cryptographic methods such as the blockchain. According to the World Economic Forum, the top three skills required to thrive in 4IR include; Complex problem solving, Critical thinking, and Creativity. These skills are different from the top skills listed by the World Economic Forum in 2015, Therefore; For the youth to be able to contribute to 4IR they need to upskill.
