WINGSForum aims to provide a platform to imagine, explore and experiment with different paths as individuals, organizations, and as a field. It brought together more than 350 attendees from over 50 countries from October 3-5, 2023, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. Philanthropy leaders, professionals, networks, experts and changemakers from around the world representing all forms and types of philanthropy were here.
The Youth Cafe in partnership with AIESEC is organizing a youth month; the largest youth-centered event in Kenya. Youth Month is an annual event organized by AIESEC in Kenya founded in 2022, where the Country Managers, members, and youths in general from all over the country meet to build new projects, network, learn new skills, ensuring we solve the problems youths in the country face.
The Youth Cafe is thrilled to partner with the Go Youth and supports disseminating the Go Youth! Open Call to its networks, given its work in youth innovation. The Go Youth! Global Open Call 2022 is a crowdsourcing open call for Youth Voices on Health Innovation. This open call strongly focuses on supporting social innovation in health research; therefore, ideas with evidence on pilot or early-stage implementation are preferred. Are you a youth (18 to 35) interested in youth-led social innovation in health initiatives worldwide? We search for youth-led health innovations to receive seed research funding, mentorship and support, networking opportunities, and international recognition.
The basis for the prioritization of youth development is rooted in Our Strategic Plan, which looks at today's youth bulge as an opportunity for development and economic growth. The prioritization of youth development has made The Youth Café the leading organization in realizing sizable, lasting, and positive changes in the lives of young people in Africa. Youthful audacity to dream big and execute those dreams is essential in tackling Africa's daunting challenges today. Fostered by grassroots knowledge, The Youth Café commits to reducing youth deprivation and socio-economic empowerment resulting in transformative change.
On February 19, 2022, The Youth Café is planning an event to address the informal housing challenge. The key partners in the event include; The Aga Khan University, University of the Fraser Valley, Innovative Governance of Large Urban Systems, UN-Habitat -Youth Café-Urban Economic Forum, and other private sector and community partners who focus on the informal youth housing challenge and its impact on young people.
The open call has global prizes. Selected finalists will receive seed funding (quantum subject to the needs of each project) to pilot their innovations in their communities, as well as research mentorship to help monitor and evaluate their projects, write research manuscripts, and disseminate their findings to a wider audience. Finalists will also be given the opportunity to have their projects recognized at international conferences and ceremonies.
International Youth Day takes place annually on the 12th of August. This year’s theme is focused on “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”. Though, the success of this effort on a global scale can only be achieved through the participation of youth. There are always discussions about the need for inclusive support mechanisms that will help ensure that youth will keep amplifying the need to collectively protect life on earth. Through initiatives like this, The Youth Café is at the forefront of guiding youth to become more involved with creating a society that advocates for food sustainability, and human as well as planetary health.
The Youth Cafés Executive Director has been invited to be a part of this year’s Futuremakers Forum, in his capacity as a youth business leader in Africa. Join us at this event from 13-15 July to coincide with the United Nations’ World Youth Skills Day. At the Forum we will hear from business leaders and the employees of the future, discuss emerging trends in the future world of work, and what it means for young people entering the job market over the next decade.
Youth engagement for global action is the main theme for International Youth Day 2020. The theme seeks to dissect how youths are engaged in various aspects locally, nationally and globally. The need to boost youth representation in multilateral and political institutes will also be looked upon. To provide a starting point for youth in Africa, The Youth Café has planned a series of activities prior to the date of celebration and has lined up creative launches on International Youth Day
