Key Take Aways From A Roundtable On Digital Rights For Partners And Donors In Africa
There is a desire for increased collaboration and support between partners and donors, and possibly good opportunities for improving support for digital rights work. The Youth Café was invited by The Kenya ICT Action Network to take part in a partners and donors roundtable during the Kenya Internet Governance Forum (KIGF) 2021 week. The objective of the roundtable was to bring together Donors and Social Justice Organisations to create awareness and appraise each other on the situation of digital rights in Africa.

A group of young grassroots movement leaders from around the continent of Africa have called on African Heads of State to urgently work with youth to address the systemic issues that have disempowered an entire generation of young people. The young leaders are calling for African heads of state to allow them to exercise their freedom and creativity, to contribute to African society, by ending the unfair, unjust profiling and targeting of young people in national security operations.

What future do young people want and how can they increase their participation in politics? This was the overarching question that formed an esteemed panel of young leaders, including The Youth Cafe’s Executive director, at the recently conducted online conference under the theme of COVID-19 & DEMOCRACY IN EAST AFRICA CONFERENCE from 19-20 November 2020. The Youth Cafe’s overarching goal around youth inclusion in politics is to increase the number of informed youth participating in the upcoming 2022 elections in Kenya, as well as increased participation of marginalized groups like women in the elections.
