Magnifying Visibility Of Youth Leaders

International Republican Institute, The Youth Café and partners are working on a project aimed to enhance the skills of Kenyan youth to gain influence within the political establishment and to serve in civic and political leadership roles. To accomplish this, the project will hold a series of capacity-building training to increase the technical skills of Kenyan youth to successfully participate in the party primaries and contest in the elections.

The Youth Café was privileged to have been invited to take part in this year’s Babacar Ndiaye Lecture, which took place virtually on Wednesday, 20 October 2021 at 4:00 p.m. Nairobi Time. This year's keynote lecture was under the theme "The importance of science, technology and innovation in the transformation of African economies under the AfCFTA" and was delivered by Prof. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, first female President of Mauritius and 2007 laureate of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards.

On the 29th of September, 2021, The Youth Café was invited to give a lecture to the honors students at the University of Illinois at Chicago about a Global Perspective on Social Media Activism. We discussed global Social Media Activism and highlighted some case studies in Africa, where we spoke about the role of the youth in social media activism and the role of social media in shaping the contemporary public sphere and our democracy.

Key Take Aways From A Roundtable On Digital Rights For Partners And Donors In Africa 

There is a desire for increased collaboration and support between partners and donors, and possibly good opportunities for improving support for digital rights work. The Youth Café was invited by The Kenya ICT Action Network to take part in a partners and donors roundtable during the Kenya Internet Governance Forum (KIGF) 2021 week. The objective of the roundtable was to bring together Donors and Social Justice Organisations to create awareness and appraise each other on the situation of digital rights in Africa.
