On the 29th of September, 2021, The Youth Café was invited to give a lecture to the honors students at the University of Illinois at Chicago about a Global Perspective on Social Media Activism. We discussed global Social Media Activism and highlighted some case studies in Africa, where we spoke about the role of the youth in social media activism and the role of social media in shaping the contemporary public sphere and our democracy.

The Youth Café is supporting Social Movement Technologies, Africans Rising, Girls First Network from Africa and Laudato Si’ Movement to promote the Twitter Power Boot Camp for Activists and Campaigners waging justice against big adversaries and journalists across the world.

Social media are the interactive technologies that capacitate the creation and sharing of media and information by individuals. Platforms for such interaction constitute SMS-based messaging platforms (WhatsApp, FB-Messenger), Social Networking sites (Instagram, LinkedIn), Blogging Platforms (Wordpress, Blogger), Microblogs (Twitter, Tumlr) among others.
