Elections Observation Group (ELOG) is a long-term and permanent citizen platform comprising 18 Civil Society and Faith-Based Organizations with a mandate to strengthen democracy in Kenya and the African region through monitoring and observation of electoral processes. ELOG employs an electoral cycle approach, which entails observation in the pre-election, during the election and the post-election environment. The approach informs wholesome observation and reporting of thematic and topical issues, tracking recommendations and providing updated and relevant information to the Kenyan citizens.

General Election Process From the Ballot to the Portal

The 2022 general elections were the third general election and the fourth presidential election since the promulgation of the Constitution 2010. They were also the 7th periodic general elections since the re-introduction of multi-party democracy in Kenya in 1991. They were transitional elections for Kenya as they marked the end of the incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta’s two terms in office. Similarly, there were 22 transitions at the county governors’ level due to the expiry of respective 2 term limits. Since the re-introduction of multi-party politics in 1991, Kenyan elections have remained very high-stakes affairs that are characterized by heightened socio-economic, political and ethnic tensions.

Since 2012, The Youth Cafe has been working with Young men and women in Kenya and around Africa in the fight for climate justice and environmental preservation. Our plan contains interventions in the areas of Renewable Energy, Agroforestry, Education and public awareness, Climate Smart Agriculture, and Water Resources conservation and the anticipated impacts. The goals of the plans are to promote cooperation between all stakeholders in the promotion of Sustainable development and Environmental conservation.

In regards to this, The Youth Cafe, in partnership with the Indonesia Youth Foundation, held a 3-day Kenya & Indonesia virtual Trans-cultural workshop; “Buddies Without Borders: Amplifying Cultures & Promoting Diversity,” objectified to Promote cultures and heritages of Indonesia and Kenya, Build mutual understanding and tolerance between Indonesian and Kenyan youths, Bridge overseas friendship and networking, Explore new cultural facets from the two countries (such as language, food, traditions, art, and fashion) and deepen the intercultural connection as well as Flourish diversity cross-cultural skills in a globalized world.
