The Youth Cafe And The US-Youth, Peace And Security Coalition

The Youth Café, committing to the UN Youth, Peace and Security agenda, recently became a member of the United States-Youth Peace and Security Coalition (US-YPS), co-led by Search for Common Ground and the Alliance for Peacebuilding. The Coalition is part of the larger Global Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security which consists of an amalgam of civil society organizations, including youth-led and youth-serving ones like The Youth Café, UN entities, donors, academia and inter-governmental bodies.

The Youth Cafe has conducted extensive consultations with youth-led and youth-focused organizations operating locally, nationally, or regionally in all parts of the world. In particular, the content of this submission comes from the consultations held at the Youth Forum held in conjunction with the XII Summit of the Global Forum on Migration and Development in Quito 2020 , a mapping of youth-led and youth-focused alternatives to child dentition in Latin America, and a recent webinar we held about the effects of COVID on youth on the move.

Between March and April, The Youth Cafe led an open Africa regional consultation on youth perspectives and priorities on these three topics, for which we consulted 25 locally-based youth-led and youth-focused organizations with national or international focus, acting in 21 countries, and representing over 700 young leaders in migration issues. The results of these consultations are summarized in three policy briefs.

The United Nations will mark 75 years of existence this year. To celebrate this anniversary, the UN has continued to stimulate conversations around the role of global cooperation and the UN that we want. The World is in the middle of a huge pandemic which has affected our normal as we know it. Due to this pandemic, major activities have been halted and this has affected major UN meetings with regard to the UN75declaration.
