Voluntary National Review is a strategy based on the 2030 Agenda: Member states to "conduct regular and inclusive reviews of progress at the national and sub-national levels, which are country-led and country-driven. Like the 2030 Agenda of participation, The Youth Café strives for global connection, has reached over 72 countries, and is a local and national rope for achieving goals. The Youth Cafés principles are a call to action for governments, civil societies, private and public sectors, bi- and multilateral, and knowledge institutions. To invest in mutual prospects and work in partnership for sustainable development.
The WHO defines Community Health Workers (CHWs) as lay people who live in the communities they serve and who function as a critical link between those communities and the primary-healthcare system. In Africa, they provide low-cost interventions for common maternal and pediatric health problems such as pneumonia, diarrhea, undernutrition, malaria, HIV, measles and now COVID-19. They also assist with immunization.
We have insisted decades ago, precisely in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, that gender equality and women’s human rights are not meant to be conceived as only as a national issue. Rather, a full understanding of what it means to mainstream gender equality at the core of every actions requires us to center our attention on global macro and structural measures. This is perhaps where Member States have a glaring debt in the face of their international commitments in relation to women’s human rights
The Constitution protects all Kenyans from discrimination. Article 10 stipulates human dignity, equity, social justice, inclusiveness, equality, human rights, non-discrimination, and protection of the marginalized as national values and principles of governance. Articles 97 and 98 make express provisions for the representation of persons with disabilities in the National Assembly and Senate. The County Assemblies similarly include legislators with disabilities, pursuant to Article 177 of the Constitution.
“In my four years of clinical practice, I witnessed how much misinformation resulted in serious health problems for the public,” Brenda says. “Health education matters a lot in Uganda because the prevalence of infectious and non-communicable diseases is still very high.”Indeed, the prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease and cancer has increased rapidly in years past, accounting for 35 percent of the country’s deaths in 2014, according to the World Health Organization.
Government staffer Souhayata Haidara enjoys talking about her life in a patriarchal society. Her career is a triumph of patience and perseverance, she tells Africa Renewal with a smile and a wink. Ms. Haidara, currently the Special Adviser to Mali’s Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, says she was lucky not to be married off at age 14 like some of her peers. Her father resisted pressure from suitors and relatives and insisted that the teenager be allowed to complete high school before getting married.
