The Youth Café Partners With Films Pour Enfants | TAKORAMA Children's Film Festival
The international Non-Profit Organization, Films pour enfants are renewing the TAKORAMA children’s film festival in 2021, following their great success in 2020, with the participation of 35 countries, 1,200 classes, and 280,000 student participation. This year, The Youth Café is humbled to be a part of this great initiative. The festival is principally aimed at primary and secondary school teachers and their students. However, it is free of charge and open to all educational, cultural, and social institutions as well as to parents.
This year, the objective of the festival is to explore the theme of “solidarity”. The festival comprises short films and educational activities on the concepts of humanism and ecology. During the festival, children are invited to vote for their favourite short film and participate in educational activities. Beyond cinematographic and artistic education, the festival aims to propound cinema's educational dimension by placing it alongside literature and painting as a resource capable of accompanying and supporting teachers and allowing children to interpret animated images not only as entertainment but also as a means of communication.
The festival takes place annually from March 1 to June 25. It is completely free and open to teachers and students (between the ages of 3 and 18 years) globally. Teachers register their class and receive by email the educational activities they can give to their students after watching the movies. Students vote for their favourite film and award the children's prize. Parents can also register their children directly.
The selection of films is done meticulously by a committee of partners based on content and age of children. The final selection of films is grouped into 5 age categories made up of 3 films each. The festival is aimed at children around the world with children in developing countries especially encouraged to take part.
The Youth Cafés mission is to enrich the lives of young people and advance youth-led approaches toward achieving sustainable development, social equity, innovative solutions, community resilience, and transformative change. Since, one of the focus areas highlighted in the Theory of Change is Education and Skills. The Youth Café aspires to provide high quality education and training systems that are efficient and that facilitate young people’s access and integration. Through our collaboration with Films Pour Enfants, we hope to harness the skills and apply the knowledge from both organizations to build an educated society.
