Willice Onyango, the Executive Director of The Youth Cafe has been honored to be one of the speakers at an online event: PeaceCon 2020, Pandemics, Peace, and Justice: Shaping What Comes Next. In the midst of a global pandemic, rising global violence, and a national and worldwide reckoning over systemic injustice and racism.
PeaceCon 2020 will bring together experts and practitioners to consider the interplay of justice and peacebuilding, and strategies to elevate and integrate peacebuilding in our collective effort to shape a more just, secure, and peaceful future in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On December 9, Day 3 of PeaceCon, there will be much discussion on youth. The Youth Café’s own Willice Onyango will be sharing his story at the #Yes4YPS Workshop: Engaging Youth as Leaders and Partners and Peace. One of our focus areas is based on strong involvement of local youth and youths across the continent to be monitors of peace and security and preventing violent extremism. Some of the speakers include Dan Owen, Global Programme Reintegration Support Program Leader at World Bank, and Prof. Philip Howard, Director at Oxford Internet Institute, among other remarkable speakers.
The Agenda addresses the most pressing issues of this moment - from supporting local peacebuilders and integrating peacebuilding in pandemic response/recovery and fragility frameworks; to interreligious and environmental peacebuilding, social entrepreneurship, and learning and evaluation innovation; to building resilience and inclusion in our organizations; to peacebuilding approaches to counter systemic racism, weaponization of social media, and violent extremism.
Taking place virtually December 7-9 and hosted in partnership with the U.S. Institute of Peace, PeaceCon 2020 is an opportunity to come together, share best practices, and build common cause at a critical inflection point for the world.
Sign up today and help spread the word on this unique global gathering. PeaceCon 2020 will convene peacebuilders, policymakers, activists, and philanthropists to address the shifting world order.
