The Youth Cafe in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and INAPS is organizing the "Agritech Kenya County Fair 2024" which is set to take place in Kajiado County, Kenya from the 15th-16th March 2024 at Latia Agripreneurship Institute, Kajiado County. This event will bring together a diverse range of stakeholders within the space of agriculture and technology; from young farmers to agri-entrepreneurs, policymakers, and technology enthusiasts. The event aims to address critical issues in food systems, technology, and youth engagement from a bottom-up indulgence approach.
Catalogue Objectives:
1.Highlight best practices in technologies that can boost food production for food and nutrition security for rural, urban and peri-urban set up in Kenya.
2.Provide a platform for stakeholders to learn about the intersection of technology and agriculture.
3.Offer opportunities for youth to explore employment and livelihood possibilities within agriculture through technology.
4.Expose Kenyan farmers to modern farming practices, agricultural foreign investments, and new farming technologies.
5.Showcase technologies and innovations for urban and peri-urban farming, including rooftop farming, vertical green systems, hydroponics, and more.
The Agritech Kenya County Fair 2024, for the first phase (out of three phases in 2024), will be keen to seek work points along the following crop value chains: Avocado value Chain, Macadamia Value Chain, Sweet Potato value Chain, Irish Potato value Chain, Afri-xotic Green leafy Vegetables (African & Exotic), Green Grams, Millets & Sorghums Value Chains, Rice Vale Chain, Onions, Mango Value Chain and Sunflower Value Chain.
During the Fair There will be a launch of Book Catalogue titled; “99 Affordable Agritechs for Young Agripreneurs” This Catalogue contains 99 affordable AGRITECHS intended for upscaling in Year 2024 courtesy of Agriculture and Technology Consortiums working closely with the event organizers. The aim of compilation of the agritechs is to enable as many youths as possible select the most appropriate technology suitable to their region and which can be up scaled for their adoption. This move is envisaged to have more youth engage in agriculture as a business across the 47 counties in Kenya.
