The UNESCO MIL Alliance is inviting all MIL CLICKers, MIL CLICKS followers, the MIL Alliance Youth Committee, and other individual groups to attend a virtual award ceremony on the UNESCO MIL CLICKS under the theme “Having Fun with Media and Information Literacy!” It would be held from 16-18 of December.

The Youth Café‘s digital/media information literacy projects with African youth have won FIRST place in UNESCO GLOBAL AWARDS!! Over the years The Youth Café has undertaken projects and activities to further digital/media information literacy among the youth in Africa and implemented a media project aimed at cultivating youth power to advance media independence.

This virtual Fete aims to have fun while thinking critically and clicking wisely online and to connect and engage with the MIL CLICKers worldwide. It is about promoting your creative works on the MIL CLICKS platforms in a form of an online party/concert as we close one of the most difficult year in our lifetime, 2020.

Theme:

“MIL CLICKS Fete - Partying with Media and Information Literacy”

Objective:

To have fun while thinking critically and clicking wisely in the informationdigital, and communication environment.

Description of activities:

On each day, one live Jam Session from 4 to 6 pm CET, as well as other activities such as posting and reposting a selection of content from the applicants.

Applicants (MIL CLICKers, MIL CLICKS followers, and the MIL Alliance Youth Committee) can participate if they send their work via email, post their content on social media, and tag  @MILCLICKS

For those who are not part of the above-mentioned groups and those who are, the rules to  participate will be to: 

  • Follow MIL CLICKS channel on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram;

  • Like the flyer post on all social media platforms;

  • Tag at least two friends and make sure they follow MIL CLICKS as well;

  • Share the post on your social media story.

The applicants should send an email by December 9th confirming their participation as an ‘artist’ of the MIL CLICKS Fete. Candidates must indicate whether they will do a pre-recording OR perform live to showcase their creative or entertainment style content.

Participants’ creative or entertainment content (original or adapted content that adheres to the spirit of the event) must be about media and information literacy (MIL) or MIL in social life. . Selected content will be shared in MIL CLICKS’ Facebook and  Instagram stories. The creative or entertainment content of the day with the most likes/shares will be posted on the MIL CLICKS social media pages as a permanent post. 

Categories of content:

  1.  Drawing, painting, and poster

  2. Performing arts (dancing, singing, acting, comedy, etc.)

  3. Social commentary, poetry, and storytelling

  4. Other entertaining formats you wish to propose. 

Examples of content:

  • Storytelling/acting : Tell a story about your experience with disinformation and online hate  speech, and how MIL has helped;

  • Social commentary: Why media and internet and technology companies should promote  MIL? Why should we promote MIL, in particular during and beyond the COVID-19  pandemic;

  • Dancing: Create your signature MIL Dance - “Working from home, flood with information - My MIL moves or dance break”;

  • Singing: Participants can write and perform an original song about MIL or interpret an existing song. Candidates can also interpret an existing song or artistic work that they think  is related to MIL such as Bob Marley’s Redemption Song and Could You Be Love 


Participants can send their content as  live participation, video clip, poster/meme/graphics, or   GIF

 All content must be related to Media and Information Literary  

The Youth Cafe is a member of the Global Media Alliance. We have worked on different research and projects on media. The Youth Cafe has won 1st place in 2020 UNESCO GLOBAL AWARDS. Visit The Youth Cafe for more updates and events.
