The Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD-Kenya) was founded by political parties in Kenya to strengthen multiparty democracy. It has worked with opposition and ruling parties since its inception and has played a pivotal role in the actualization of substantive political changes, steering Kenya towards democracy.
Further, CMD-Kenya serves as a platform for multiparty dialogue and cooperation with civic actors and policymakers to promote social justice, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and political governance best practices.
The People Dialogue Festival (PDF) concept in Kenya was initiated by CMD-Kenya, inspired by Kenya’s Vision 2030 political pillar highlighting the goal to realize a democratic political system that is issue-based, people-centered, result-oriented and accountable to the public. Therefore, the objective of PDF is to provide a platform for political parties and other actors (both state and non-state) to be in political dialogue on governance reforms, socio-economic issues and to safeguard democratic gains.
The inaugural PDF event was successfully convened in March 2019 in Nairobi; subsequent editions have been held in 2020, 2021, and 2022. Underpinning the fifth edition of PDF is the overall theme, Competition and Collaboration in Democratic Development.
The Youth Cafe advocates for youth representation and inclusion in decision-making within politics and political parties. The People Dialogue Festival provides a platform for inclusive and participatory structures to be set up within political parties to support youths in attaining decision-making power.
