The Youth Cafe has been invited by The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to attend a virtual meeting on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, from 2:00 pm to 3:45 pm to launch the Kenya Cross-Sectoral Youth Assessment Report which provides rich data about overlapping vulnerabilities that youth face today. The launch event will use the assessment findings as a call to action - challenging the government, development organizations, private sector, and youth leaders to innovate in the way they respond to youth vulnerability.

The youth cafe works with youths in Kenya and around the continent to propose innovative solutions and drive social progress in urban and rural communities. Therefore, the assessment seeks to identify opportunities to optimally support youth and guide strategic engagement with youth as:

  • beneficiaries and participants of sustainable, Kenyan-owned development solutions that can be brought to scale over time, and

  • key actors empowered to identify and prioritize challenges and propose local- and youth-based innovative solutions.

The event will bring together participants from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs, private sector, and youth leaders who are active in their communities. The event will feature a panel discussion by young people. We welcome your contribution to key questions that will be addressed mainly:

  • Validating the report - what have you personally experienced or observed from your peers and youth in your community regarding the youth-perceived concept of “vulnerability”?

  • What can youth leaders do differently to address youth vulnerability in their communities - particularly engaging those most in need?

  • What key messages do youth want to share with Government and youth-focused institutions? We, therefore, encourage that you take time to read the report in advance of the event.
