On 9 August 2022, Kenyans participated in one of the most competitive elections in the country’s history. The Youth Cafe is honoured to participate in the Kenya- Post Election Routable, which will be held in Nairobi on November 10th-11th, 2022.
The Youth Cafe (TYC) is a leading African Youth Organization in Governance Architecture. Governance and political inclusion is a central area in the work of the Youth Cafe and is among The Eight Thematic Areas of the Youth Cafe’s work.
TYC provides a platform for young people and youth-led organizations to interact with the world. A transparent, democratic, and accountable environment is what The Youth Café is all about.
The Youth Cafe developed The Kenya Youth Manifesto, in which 80% of its contents were adopted by the current ruling coalition -The Kenya Kwanza.
The Kofi Annan Foundation and the Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD-Kenya), with the support of the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF), are co-convening a Post-Election Review Roundtable, bringing together election observer missions (local and international) and key election stakeholders to discuss and agree upon the common issues that arose during the Kenyan Elections and draw up key recommendations and lessons learnt.
The findings and recommendations from this roundtable will add to a growing body of literature on the Kenyan election system’s problems and how best to resolve them.
The Youth Cafe, together with other stakeholders, will facilitate an inclusive and effective dialogue with election stakeholders, which will build a consensus on the key issues that arose in these elections, build consensus on the key reforms that need to be undertaken to shore up the credibility of the Kenyan electoral system and mobilise political will in favour of implementing these reforms in the coming years through a combination of public, political and diplomatic pressure.
