Challenge4ClimateAction
The Youth Cafe is inviting youths to participate in this free virtual Global Climate Action Challenge. In March 2021, student groups in the Challenge stream ideate solutions that help contribute to addressing real-life climate challenges. Choosing from one of the Problem Statements, Teams then have 10 days to work on their solution.
The Top 10 Teams present their ideas to our esteemed Judges (including Gautam Narasimhan and Kherann Yao!) with the 1st place winners awarded CAD$6,000, 2nd and 3rd places CAD$4,000 and CAD$2,000 respectively.
Datathon stream for passionate students with data analytics skills to develop actionable insights and predictive models will also be hosted online. This will help contribute to climate solutions through the use of data. Teams will be provided with prominent environmental datasets used by climate scientists and two prizes of CAD$4,000 & CAD$2,000 on offer.
In both streams, students are fulfilling their curriculum commitments by addressing UN SDG Goal 13: Climate Action, in addition to practicing their online collaboration, time management, and research skills. Why Datathons are a powerful learning tool here. The Challenge also brings together representatives from NGOs, policymakers, technologists and climate activists as Presenters, Committee Members & Mentors.
This event follows in the footsteps of our incredibly successful #DigitalInclusionChallenge last year. It saw 1000 students from 30 countries virtually compete to create solutions which enabled educational access for children worldwide. Some interesting stats from last year can be found attached and for more information about that Challenge, please visit digitalinclusionchallenge.org.
With the 26th United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP26) on the horizon, we hope this initiative helps rally your students around this valuable cause by giving them a voice on a global stage and provide them with valuable skills. We’d love it if you could please help spread the word amongst your network too!.
